mediocrity over the next few years if Kalani leaves. Mainly because there are really no good (or even experienced) LDS coaches out there.
And sadly, there is no way we hire a non-LDS head coach. BYU is too rigid and stuck in it's ways. Or else I would give the farm for Grimes (who knows if he would even accept).
I believe Kalani is leveraging this for his benefit, and that he truly wants to stay at BYU. The ball is in BYU's (and I guess the church's) court to buck the trend of paying below market value. If we short-change Kalani, I completely understand him leaving. You can never fault a man for putting his family, and future descendants, in a better financial situation. I wouldn't be mad at him in the slightest, and neither should of any of you, as I assume pretty much all of us would bolt from our current jobs if someone dangled over 2x the salary.
Kalani had a rough start when it came to on field performance, but man these past 2 years have been so special. Please stay Kalani.
