Dart is a long shot. He wants to start and Jaren Hall is a major roadblock to that at BYU. Dart would immediately jump to the favorite to backup and then start after Jaren Hall, but Dart will have a lot of high end P5 schools and NIL deals to choose from. The math just doesn't add up as BYU being the place for Dart, unless he changes his mind and is willing to sit behind Jaren.

Without Dart in the equation, the backup role is between Conover and Fennegan. It's not a foregone conclusion who will be the backup between the two. They both have shown extremely well in practice. Fennegan has definitely gained ground with his excellent play on the scout team. With Baylor out of the program, both will be competing hard to become the heir apparent. Both QBs have a chance to be extremely good in the future. Ultimately, it's a toss up between the two QBs. I'd lean slightly towards Conover based on his intangibles, but the offseason will dictate if he earns 2nd string.

As for SJM, he's going to be 4th string again next season or switch positions. He's a running QB in a system that is all wrong for him. He could come into a game as a spark, but he just doesn't have the arm that the others competing with him have.
