When all my friends started getting their own cars for their 16th birthdays
I grew up in a pretty wealthy area in So Cal. I realized it when I saw all my friends getting their own cars for their 16th birthdays.
Mostly BMWs and Volkswagen Jettas (this was in the 80s).
One kid got a Ferrari for his 16th birthday. Other kids rode in limousines to school
I had to ask my mom to borrower her station wagon if I wanted to use a car.
I guess its all perspective. Looking back, me and my siblings had very good lives as children, but when we compared ourselves to others we thought we were poor (but we werent).
And no, I'm not making this up.

Too bad you didn't go to my kid's schools. Lunch is free for all students. I don't know how they do it, but its all free
