I always knew but one thing that sticks out was a high school teacher
who reminded us as the bell rang that open house for parents was that night. "But if your parents smoke, tell them not to come. I cannot stand the smell of cigarette smell on clothes and people's breath." And he wasn't joking. And no this guy was not LDS and this was not Utah.
I was 15 and it dawned on me that my clothes might smell like smoke, even though I never smoked a cig on my life. I felt that put me in an even lower class.
