First, I think we need to drop the idea that college sports exist to make money. It is an accident of history that CFB and to a lesser extent MBB make money for the schools. It isn’t why we have college sports or frankly college at all and we shouldn’t let college be ruined by chasing money.
Second, there is a specific history to why we don’t have men’s soccer. Some scandal or other. More recently, I’ve been repeatedly told by people familiar with the program that they don’t want to be D1. It supposedly would restrict how well they can train. In terms of developing soccer players, getting out of the ncaa is supposedly a better model.
But regardless of the above, I think an NCAA mens soccer team would fit the mission of byu very well, better than the current setup.
