TVP=textured vegetable protein, used in the 70s as a storable meat substitute
The variety my parents had for food storage (which we rotated through) came in those large #10 cans, dehydrated, so it had to be reconstituted with water. Think of the chunks of "sausage" on top of a cheap frozen pizza, but with less flavor and not even meat. It was what I imagined dog food tasted like.
