Punting to keep yourself in the game≠ punting to lose by less. In fact the more you trail the less you should punt,
which will lead to getting blown out more often.
Teams care way too much about losing respectably and not enough about taking extreme risks in order to win.
If the game is close and it helps you out, sure, punt to your hearts content.
