Wasatch Academy has changed the game considerably for Utah recruiting.
Their entire starting lineup usually ends up signing scholarship offers, and BYU has developed a pipeline to that program over the past few years. In terms of LDS talent, there are usually between 1-3 high-level LDS b-ball recruits out there nationally in a given year, with the occasional big-time HS player like Collin Chandler/Frank Jackson/Jabari Parker. On a yearly basis, BYU needs to land at least one top LDS guy, along with a top transfer portal/JC guy who can offset mission-related roster imbalances and can provide an immediate talent infusion into the program. Going into the Big 12 will also provide some extra visibility for top national talent, and can be BYU's calling card for getting into the homes of of good players who can also be successful at BYU.
