Dak is a B-level QB being paid A+ money, and his lack of situational awareness on that play was horrifyingly bad. A QB draw with no hope of getting out of bounds has a very, very good chance of being your last play. But even if Dallas had spiked the ball in time, the likelihood of successfully scoring a TD from the 24 are incredibly low - and that's exactly what Dallas would have had to do if the ref had somehow managed to be exactly where he was needed to be in order for the Cowboys to snap and spike the ball.
