Mental health benefits from weed and psychedelics
I know there are a lot of people on here that either struggle with anxiety/depression or know someone that does. So, I wanted to share my experience with marijuana and psilocybin in hopes it can help people that are struggling.

I got divorced last summer and it spiraled my already bad depression to a whole different level. I have always had some suicidal thoughts but rarely thought I could actually act on them, but my divorce made it feel like a legitimate option. I had tried antidepressants before that either made things worse or made me so numb I felt dead. So, I decided to try marijuana to see if that would be a better option than antidepressants.

For those that haven’t smoked weed, it is almost surely not what you expect. I found that getting high is a lot more like a therapy session that helps you fix your problems than a medicine that alleviates the symptoms. I smoked/at edibles 3-4 times a week for a month or so and had better benefits than any therapy or medicine I had ever tried.

Out of curiosity I’ve done a lot of research into psilocybin the last few years but didn’t really plan to try it since I’m not a recreational drug user. The same people that helped me try weed also encouraged me to try psilocybin mushrooms, and since their advice had been good so far I figured I would give it a go.

Without going into too much detail on the trip (partially because there literally aren’t words to explain the interstellar journey lol), the experience/benefits have made it one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. For me, the difference between weed and psilocybin is marijuana helped me get through the pain caused by anxiety and depression, but psilocybin temporarily let me feel genuinely happy for the first time in years. The lasting effect has been a subconscious understanding of my anxiety and depression that hasn’t removed them, but it has allowed me to understand how trivial/made up most of my insecurities/obstacles are.

I rarely use marijuana anymore and likely won’t use psilocybin again either, unless I go back to the dark place I had been in. But, based on my experience and the experience of everyone I know that has tried either/both of those treatments, I think they should be treated just like any other treatment option for adults. The experiences may be a little heavy for teenagers.

Both substances may have saved my life. They are really intense experiences that are likely not for everyone. But, for those of you that need to find another option, I would 1000% recommend. May be the best thing I have ever done for my mental health, and therefore my life.

One unexpected benefit for me was how the psilocybin trip strengthened my testimony. Not sure I the details as to why my testimony strengthened would come across very well on here, but I am happy to chat with anyone that has questions.
