Years ago we took my son to an urgent care clinic because he was sick and having difficulty breathing. Turns out he had
pneumonia and he needed to be hospitalized. His oxygen saturation levels were such that the doctor didn't feel comfortable having us drive him to the hospital so they called an ambulance (I think his O2 levels were in the mid 80s). They loaded him up in the ambulance and determined he needed a nebulizer treatment. The ambulance drove the 5 miles from urgent care clinic to the hospital. The bill came to $1500. The nebulizer treatment was over $200. I couldn't believe it. We had the same issue where it was determined to be out of network but eventually the insurance company came around and paid the bill.
