What I mean is, I can see stories/air time being given to how Utah is losing close games and is close but not quite there yet. That's an ok story if there aren't any better stories out there.
But there's a huge story here in the state ... BYU is about to be ranked in the top 25 and has a potential All-American. Not only that, this All-American is from BYU, but is not LDS himself. That's super unique and unusual. Will he be the first non-LDS all-american from BYU since ... when? You mean non-LDS kids can thrive at BYU? Why yes, they can!
But wait, there's more! This particular player was a washed up benchwarmer before getting picked up by a new coach. Now he's a probable AA. That's a cool story! He's also a super articulate guy in interviews. So interview him! Talk to him! Tell his story.
But wait, there's more! This almost-ranked team has overcome losing all of their experienced centers and is playing two Muslim immigrants from Africa who are fairly new to the USA, new to BYU, and pretty much new to basketball (We know Atiki is raw, but even Fouss is fairly new to bball, having mostly played soccer all his life). That's a cool story.
I mean, these are interesting stories ... particularly about Barcello. They should be talking about him every day and tracking his progress. National pundits are calling him the best shooter in the country. Local pundits should be talking about him, about what he's overcome, who he is, what his potential is, etc.
It's just sloppy bad journalism to be talking about Utah right now when they are a non-story.
