Go look up the accomplishments of Stan Watts. He's far too underappreciated for what he accomplished at BYU at a time when BYU wasn't known ... for anything.
But I agree with you that if Pope stays and continues to build he's got the brains, personality, and drive to possibly be one of the greatest coaches BYU has ever had. He has more to work with, but he has the ability to do more with it as well. And he'll have the opportunity to do it on the biggest stages being in the best basketball conference in the country. He just needs to stay which could be the biggest question for him as a coach at BYU: how long will he stay here.
