I think the roommate was mistaken - especially if that caused her to close the

door on her investigation.  Who are we to conclude that the roommate did not feel the influence of the Holy Ghost and dismiss it as "manipulation?"  The enemies of Christ tried to explain away His miracles as being accomplished through the power of the adversary - which was ridiculous.  But, it was effective in convincing some to stay away from the Savior.  Could the raising of Lazarus from the dead be explained away by some as "emotional manipulation?"  Sure - doesn't make it true, though.
