The problem for me is that it becomes more or less a single purpose car
If you ONLY use it around town, then it's not an issue. But most people use their cars for a lot of things. Even if you only go on a road trip a couple of times per year, an EV is extremely limited and does a pretty poor job for that use case.

It's like the Smart Car - tons of people jumped on board because it was an efficient people mover, but then realized that it was ONLY a people mover. You couldn't even do a grocery shopping trip with it without major complications. Most people want a car that works for all of their needs.
