You and me might have been umpiring the same little league tournament. I was
the 2nd base umpire on a 4 man crew for the state championship game involving Randy's team. Twice during the game Coach Reid came out to let me know that I had made the 2 worst calls he had ever seen. Upon his 2nd visit and subsequent comment, I told him that considering his extensive experience as both a player and a coach, I would take that comment as a compliment. The next week I was back in Spanish Fork umpiring the Pony League State Tournament, and was sitting around the concession stand in between games visiting and relaxing. Coach Reid saw me and approached me. He said he had talked to numerous people about the game from the previous week. He said about 50% saw the play the way I had called it, and about 50% saw it how he had seen it. He also said that based on his inform polling of people, that I was probably right (I'm sure it also helped that Randy's team had won the game). Lol Anyways, I've always thought highly of Coach Reid. He was ultra competitive and I never had a problem with that. I also officiated high school basketball while attending BYU. Coach Reid came twice to our meetings that I remember and took time to visit with us and share his thoughts and philosophy on what he thought made a good basketball official. Always respected him for taking the time out of his busy schedule, especially in season, and doing that for us officials.
