Ok cougarboard, I’d like your wisdom.
We have a 2011 Sienna that is need of some fairly major repairs. Anywhere from 2-5k depending on how things go. I’ve already looked around and that seems correct. I’m torn between trying to fix it, but a used van, or buy a new van.
Ordinarily I would try to find something from 2-5 years old with ~55k miles. But the used market is crazy right now. Most of what I would consider getting is between 25-32k and has 80k miles on it. That doesn’t really interest me.
I’ve never purchased a new vehicle before but now may be the time. I can get a new van for 35-39k. Now that is about 10k more but it would be new and reliable. Most places online that I try to do a trade in offer about 5k for my van. I talked a dealer into giving me 7k for it.

What would you guys do?
Fix the old beater?
Buy used?
Buy new?

I should also mention that with 4 kids the interior of the van takes a beating and that also makes me hesitant to buy new only to see it get destroyed.
