It helps them to see parents interested in it. Our dining room is a music room with digital pianos, violins, guitar, digitial drums, marimba, bagpipes, banjo, oboe, flute, clarinet. A few south American percussion instruments I don't even know the names of. All 4 kids took piano, while my girls also played oboe, my youngest boy loves percussion. If they decided to move on from an instrument we didn't push back too much. When my oldest daughter started at BYU and was off campus, first thing she asked for was a keyboard to help her pace her studying. If the parents are all push and don't play or learn themselves it's hard to justify why u are forcing this upon them.
Oh and digital instruments where they can wear headphones makes life more enjoyable. 3 of the four are out of the house and sadly I miss the music.
