How have you gone about getting your kids into learning an instrument? Do you wait for them to express interest in one,

Force them to learn music. Start them at the age they start to read.

We did that with all of our kids, one absolutely rebelled after a couple years

I wish I would have learned one and have plans to when my boys aren't so little - I have very little uninterrupted time

It was expected I take lessons until I could play the hymns. I hated it at first

Yes, we force them to do piano. They are generally fine with it. We also make them join Orchestra or Band in 5th grade
