I have several friends who are in the industry and have all commented about how subpar the workmanship is right now because builders are basically hiring anybody with a pulse to get the job done. They have told me several stories about shoddy construction that is getting by right now.

The supply chain issues are a separate problem. You likely won't be able to get the fixtures and finishes that you want. One guy said that their suppliers ran out of every paint except 1 color, and only 1 kind of brick, so every house in the neighborhood (this is a tract builder) looks exactly the same.
