My wife and sister in law both have type 1 diabetes.
Sister in law got it when she was 10 and my wife got it when she was 20. It's expensive, but doable. There's also a lot of support you can get from other parents of diabetic kids. (don't know any it Utah but shouldn't be too hard to find)

Came home from vacation and noticed my 12 year old had lost about 10lbs. He’s also been saying his vision is blurry.
