was it just tenure that they made the decision? Did you over negotiate and end up at the top of the pay band for your position? Did other employees make themselves more available, working a few hours here or there as needed at night to help those above you on the food chain and generally be seen as "the person always willing to help" etc.

Tough time, but you'll land in a good spot. Market is slowing, but still warm.
