I was interested in trying to see just how big the recruiting gap is btwn a
middle of the road team like BYU and the top teams like aTm and 'Bama.

Excluding a kicker, the lowest rated recruit in aTm's #1 recruiting class for 2022 would be the 32nd ranked recruit ALL-TIME at BYU. Alabama's #2 class is the same, except their lowest rated guy is a little higher rated. If you composed a list of the top 10 recruits from the best all-time BYU recruits and just this season's aTm class, only two BYU guys (in history) would make the cut: Ben Olson, and Ofa Mohetau. (Alabama would be the same story BTW).

To me, this emphasizes that yes, we need to get the best players we can, but we are going to be successful only as our coaches figure out how to do more with less and/or find guys that are under-recruited. That is the reality-- recruiting is a game we can't win IMO.
