The flash forward <<spoilers>> of an aged Walt celebrating his birthday at a diner and purchasing an M60 was written before they knew the events that would lead up to it and before they knew what the ending was going to be.
Characters develop. Plot developments should feel organic. In the end, good writing is just plain good writing. Some are really good at setting up the mystery but not so good at landing the resolution.</spoilers>
