I just let spotify run all day long today and went through tons of music and started wondering this. I like a lot of different music. Usually listen to current, but appreciate some of the stuff from the 70s (and of course earlier like the Beatles). I loved the 90s grunge - creativity of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, STP etc. The late 90s early 00s with stuff like Green Day, Killers (still one of my favorites, together with Brandon's solo stuff).
But the 80s seem like the golden era. Timeless stuff like Journey, hair bands like Motley Crue and Poison and Guns N Roses and Def Leppard and so many others. New wave like Depeche Mode. Even rap and R&B with NWA, Boyz 2 Men, Eazy E, Beastie Boys. And that is without even getting into country, although 90s might be more influential there.
I wonder why it was so transformative. Maybe moving to easy access with cassettes but radio was still big and there wasn't the overwhelming overload we have now? And MTV actually played music with cable tv becoming prevalent? I think I spent way too much time doing yard work today.
