I’m still just in radiology residency but have had a few breast/mammography rotations. I understand how this could be very confusing and scary for someone who doesn’t look at hundreds of mammograms every week.
If we called out every little spot on a mammogram almost every woman would get lots of unnecessary biopsies and surgeries etc.
We use a system called BIRADS to classify lesions and risk stratify them. This lesion was probably a BIRADS 3 lesion meaning it has a chance of between 0 and 2% of being cancer. Short interval follow up is recommended. If it looks bigger next time or displays other concerning features or even sometimes if the radiologist still just doesn’t like the look of it they will biopsy it.
Again I understand the concern but it is almost certainly (98%+) a benign finding.
