My brother was the March of Dimes poster child that year for Utah, and he was going to be interviewed by Carol Mikita (along with my parents) during the live annual telethon that was broadcast from Primary Children's Hospital. My entire family was standing in the area outside of their temporary studio waiting for my brother to be interviewed, and Carol Mikita walked out and started chatting with my family. She was nice, but she spoke to us in her newscaster voice and in the same manner that you would speak to someone if they were being interviewed on TV. I guess that I was expecting to see her guard down, which it definitely wasn't, even though we weren't on TV.
