Gettysburg (1993) reminds me why Hollywood has turned to CGI
Because it's cheap and easy. It allows studios to pump out quantity over quality.

Gettysburg used no CGI. Filmed on location. Real cannon and musket powder for effects. I imagine filming something of that magnitude is 10× harder than using studio magic with CGI.

Could any Hollywood director even handle a film like Gettysburg today with all the real people to direct?
