Selected the NBA category because of my two examples:

Utah Jazz--Why in the world? Makes zero sense. Yes, I know they were originally the New Orleans Jazz and then moved to SLC, but keeping the Jazz name in Utah. It boggles the mind that anyone thought that was a good idea then, and that anyone thinks it is still a good idea today. I have never understood the Utah Jazz name.

Los Angeles Lakers--Another case of misguidedly keeping a name that might have made sense when the team was in Minneapolis, but makes no sense for Los Angeles.

I'm sure there are other examples, but these two just continue to blow my mind. Other teams have transferred and changed to a name more appropriate to the new location (Seattle Supersonics to OKC Thunder is one example). But the geniuses in Utah and LA, for some unfathomable reason, determined it was a good idea to keep team names that had no connection to the new location.
