But we would have had the buyout money plus another game (which we would have made money off of) had we gone the other
route. More so we wouldn't have given Notre Dame yet another home game against us.

Notre Dame was either going to pay the buyout or do this. BYU took the better option. They were not coming to Provo.

BYU didn't "need" Notre Dame for 2022. They could have just as easily found someone else and the rest of the schedule

Of course. It's ridiculous what we did to get that extra game. Should have just forced them to pay us.
