BYU will earn more than the contracted buyout. Plus, we get ND in Vegas.
The alternative was to simply get the contracted buyout of $1M and play someone else much less exciting on 10/8, like Toledo or UMass.

Notre Dame was either going to pay the buyout or do this. BYU took the better option. They were not coming to Provo.

BYU didn't "need" Notre Dame for 2022. They could have just as easily found someone else and the rest of the schedule

Of course. It's ridiculous what we did to get that extra game. Should have just forced them to pay us.
