Don't forget that Notre Dame joined the ACC after signing the deal with BYU
Notre Dame added 5 or 6 built-in ACC games each year, including 2 or 3 contracted road games, in addition to its long-standing series with Navy, USC, and Stanford. That is often overlooked or ignored. Fundamental change of circumstances - not dissimilar to our own situation having to cut back future road games via our contractual right to cancel or buyouts because of the Big 12 invite.

Yes, of course Notre Dame has scheduled and played many other non-ACC teams since then. But, we're talking Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and old rivals Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue. The lesser games have all been home games. It has been a reality check at where BYU fits in college football.

But, not only did Notre Dame have the contractual right to cancel the BYU series by making a $1M payout, the fundamental change in circumstances with the ACC affiliation gave Notre Dame a legitimate and 'ethical' reason to exercise that contractual right, regardless of how we feel about it.

So, TH has done a masterful job to continue to work with Notre Dame to get another game on the schedule, despite the fundamental change in circumstances.
