Transcript of the phone call between Swarbrick and Holmoe:
Tom Holmoe: Hi Jack. Hey, calling again about that game in Provo you owe us. You know, the “1” in the “2 for 1” agreement? It would mean so much for our fans and everything to play you at home in Provo like you agreed. We’ve tried to be really patient. Any year you want.
Jack Swarbrick: Well look Tom, of course we aren’t coming to Provo. Why? Lol. Because we don’t want to. Look, I’m tired of you calling so here’s the deal. You have 2 choices:
Choice 1: We pay you the $1M buy-out. But you don’t get the privilege of playing ND.
Choice 2: You get the privilege of playing us in Vegas. We’ll make it a SHAMROCK SERIES game so, of course, it will be a Home game for us, our fans will get almost all of the tickets (did I mention you get the privilege of playing ND in a SHAMROCK SERIES GAME—boy I love that name) but you’ll make more $ than the $1M buy-out.
Whats your choice?

I think choice 2 is not an unreasonable choice (but not sure it woild have been mine). We just need to win the game.

Notre Dame was either going to pay the buyout or do this. BYU took the better option. They were not coming to Provo.

BYU didn't "need" Notre Dame for 2022. They could have just as easily found someone else and the rest of the schedule

Of course. It's ridiculous what we did to get that extra game. Should have just forced them to pay us.
