I get what you’re saying in that there is upside value to taking the game in the likely event that it was worth more than the buyout and that it will generate national exposure.
We also added a game where we will be the odds on favorite to lose in a year when we did not need added strength of schedule. We’re apparently even surrendering the lion’s share of tickets, making our odds worse still.
If priority is dollars + exposure, then sure, it is a logical decision to play the game, even under less-than-favorable circumstances.
If our priority is to finish in the top 25 or better and avoid a precedent that we can be bullied by a bigger fish, this seems a lousy choice. Rolling over to our own detriment to “stay on good terms” seems a bad approach in any relationship. I’d rather cut ties.
