The offensive tempo is a small part of it too

BYU uses all but 5-10 seconds of the clock and many offenses go faster. Even when they were behind against a Boise last year, they didn’t speed it up much, which was a bit infuriating.

But yah, the defense giving up too many first downs is the major issue,
