I think the bigger point here is playing to strength. When your O is your strength you get them the ball more.
Which means the D plays a bit more aggressively. That might mean giving up some bigger plays but also means shorting time of drives by the opponent to get your O the ball more. Thats it. That's the point. Right now the D doesn't play to that strength. So there is something to do there to adapt the philosophy.
