I don't think its an "either/or" proposition.
While additional possessions provides more datapoints for an offense to "regress toward the mean," the number of snaps an offense takes likewise allow it to regress toward the mean. A QB that is able to get in a bunch of 10-play drives is going to have a better chance of of performing to his (and his receivers') abilities than a QB that has a bunch of 3-play drives.

Additionally, while TOP is not a perfect measure by itself, when game time is a finite resource, it is meaningful to control it and hoard it because it reduces your opponents possession of it.

None of these numbers we each like to cling to occurs in a vacuum. I think you make a great point here, but I don't think it undermines others' arguments about the importance of pressure. TOP, ball control, etc.
