If you want the best value, sometimes you have to look at things that turn others off. If the living room has lime green wallpaper with fuchsia carpet, it's immediately distasteful and half of homebuyers are going to gag and walk out just at the sight of it. But there comes a point where emotional response reduces the price low enough to make up for any deficiencies.
I think we've hit that point with Simmons. Trying to trade for a player that everybody likes and everybody wants is really hard. And it costs a lot. Any trade for Demar DeRozan would almost certainly end up being one to regret because you'd have to overpay SO much. Trying to trade for a player that people have turned on and villify? Someone like Simmons? There's upside to be had there, but you have to have a plan for how to maximize him.
