After my MBA program, I signed on to do a rotational program.
There were about 6 others who were also part of the rotational program. Less than a year after we started, the hedge fund that owned our company took over another large retailer and decided to consolidate operations and move our HQ to Chicago. It was also announced that the rotational program was being cancelled, and that we would stay in whatever role we were currently in. At that point, nobody in the rotational program wanted to stick around due to the uncertainty, so we all left the company within 3-4 months. About 6 months later, we all received letters from their HR department demanding repayment for our relocation expenses, because we had left the company before we had been there for 2 years.

The letter angered me, especially since the company reneged on our rotational program and created a situation where we would be forced to move to another state. I immediately set out to contact all of my former classmates (I had most of their email addresses). I basically told them that we needed to show a united front, and that all of us should refuse to repay the relocation. If one of us caved, then it would be bad for the rest of us. Everyone agreed to follow my lead. I also reached out to my BIL, who is an attorney, and asked him for some legal advice. He told me to write them a letter that states that I would not be repaying them, and to never contact me again. He said that they wouldn't come after us because of the cost of pursuing us was too high (especially since most of us had moved on to other states). He was right, and we never heard from them again.

That company is almost completely out of business, and is only a sliver of what they once were during their glory years. It has been both a sad and a satisfying experience watching them go down in flames because of the scumbags that have owned and managed that corporation over the years.
