I don't think it's so simple as a numbers game. My friend wanted to be a fighter pilot so he joined the navy because of their elite reputation and operations on aircraft carriers. The Air Force is much broader than just fighter pilots there's all kinds of different planes that are flown in the Air Force. Logistics support, transport, etc. A lot of the Air Force also offers support for the army Navy and the Marines. I'm sure it is a lot like Green Berets vs. Seals vs delta vs rangers and other special ops. The top pilots are all amazing but just do slightly different things.
