Total garbage, but not unexpected. MLB is predictably stupid.
Angels get a slap on the wrist for orchestrating this entire thing. This is not a "both sides" situation at all. Now, teams know they can just get away with this type of thing in the future because the punishment doesn't hurt enough.

The M's never, ever retaliate when their batters get hit. They didn't strike back when Upton was hit in the head the week before.

The numbers confirm this. The M's have been hit I think 27 times by AL West opponents this season, and have only hit 5 AL West opponents--all of which were unintentional, IIRC.

Trout (who I usually like and respect) got pitched up-and-in and then wines and cries about it. The M's did nothing to retaliate when Upton literally got hit in the head previously, but the Angels couldn't handle losing the series to the M's apparently.

The Angels obviously put in their opener-reliever to go after Julio Rodriguez in the head (thankfully missing, but could have been a career altering injury if it landed). Total bush-league move. The umpires in the game were pathetic, too. They should have immediately tossed the pitcher and Nevin, and issued a warning to everyone.

That should have been the end of it, and the M's would have just let that be it because the M's did nothing to retaliate in the bottom of the inning. But the very next M's batter the following inning, Winker, got drilled. That was the last straw, obviously and the rest is history.

Clearly, Winker and Crawford should be suspended. It's totally unclear what Rodriguez did to deserve getting tossed and suspended. But the Angels players and the organization should have gotten the hammer to deter this kind of bush league nonsense.

I've mostly been indifferent to the Angels recently, but now I just can't stand those guys and will actively root against them this year...particularly since it is gratifying that they have 2 once-in-a-generation talents on their roster, and one of the highest payrolls in baseball, and are still battling the M's for 3rd place in the AL West.
