Think again. Take the time to read and digest this below. It could very well save the life of your child.
I am a father who nearly lost a child due to this "fatal distraction". I was on-call, and I got 20 phone calls from patients in 60 minutes, which is unheard of as an outpatient physician. I was directly admitting a patient to the hospital and, through all of this, I forgot I had my 2 year-old with me. When my wife frantically called me saying the police had our boy, I honestly thought my boy had left the house somehow by himself. I totally forgot and was on autopilot.
These things can happen to you. I promise you, they can. It happens to normal people.
Any time you do something out of the ordinary, you are setting yourself up for disaster. Driving a kid in the back seat is, in my opinion, out of the ordinary and too risky.
I do something simple. When I have a child in my car, I take my left shoe off and put it in the back seat. That's all it takes to save a life. Just do it!
