We don't know that exact feeling. It's totally different to be in for A CENTURY
and then to get tossed out.
It really hasn't happened since Montana and Idaho got kicked out of the PAC in the early 50s, or since the Ivy League lost athletic prestige after WWII. Since then, once you're in, you're in, regardless of success: see WSU, OSU, Vandy, Indiana, Illinois, Wake Forest, Rutgers, etc. etc. etc. etc.
