Let’s just say for argument’s sake that our D rises to the occasion this season, that the offense stays healthy and is an all-time O, and that our special teams continues to be a weapon and a field position changer…
If this becomes one of the great seasons and we beat Notre Dame (or it’s our only loss of the season in a close game), can all of those people who whines and demanded to take the buy out instead of the game please apologize?
For a special season, we need to play the best schedule we can and ND gave us an important high quality opponent. Making ND pay a buyout and getting another body bag game (it’s very rare to find a quality opponent with so little notice) doesn’t help us if we are on the cusp of a NY6 game.
I get that it sucked: they didn’t come to Provo, they didn’t give us a ‘fair’ ticket allotment, and a million other reasons to be pissed. But this has the potential to be a really good BYU team and I’d rather get ND on NBC mid season than have scheduled a second rate P5 or mid level G5. That becomes the tie breaker IF we have a special season…
If we go 7-5 then yeah…bad idea. However, I choose optimism for the season and, therefore, playing ND is way more helpful than getting a buyout and a free W…
