krindorr Intervention Needed
Here's the WORST-CASE scenario and why the Big 12 should act now...and it's about Texas and ESPN
According to Dodd's sources, the media rights $ between the Big 12 and the PAC12-2 would be negligible. Which honestly, kind of makes sense. Big 12 has more engagement, more spread, more on-field success, but PAC12 has bigger names, bigger populations, bigger markets.

So (if we take him at his word) the $ is about the same. But the Big 12 / PAC12 squabbles (while monumental to those programs and fans) is nothing in the B1G/SEC scheme of things.

So let's look at that factor. ESPN already tried to kill the Big 12. They want Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC as soon as possible, but the buyout and grant of rights is holding them in the Big 12. But if 4 more teams left the Big 12...then there wouldn't be any buyout or fees or grant of rights issues. So Texas and Oklahoma could leave tomorrow (or more realistically for 2023).

So what's to stop ESPN from offering the PAC12 just a bit of a sweetheart deal, enough to push them ahead of the Big 12...under the condition that they add some central teams. Teams like Oklahoma St, Texas Tech, TCU and a Kansas school or even Iowa St. At that point the PAC12 could go to those schools and offer them more money, more prestige, better academic company than the Big 12, plus better tie-ins. Which means 6/10 Big 12 teams (a majority) would be leaving the league and could vote to dissolve it or to waive GOR and exit fees, leaving with no penalties. And then the rest of the Big 12 (and especially the 4 new teams) would be stuck in an untenable situation.

It's possible the PAC12 would pick BYU up (learning from past mistakes), but they wouldn't be one of the initial 4, since a huge purpose of that is to get the Big 12 down to 4 teams so Texas and Oklahoma can leave without penalty.
