I don't think you answered the question
2019 final regular season rankings. Why is Utah ahead of OU and Baylor?
Quick google search. The first two precede the Rose Bowl and both have Utah in the top 40. Utah finishing in the top 12 and then starting preseason in the top 10 can only improve that, right?
If you take out the BIG and SEC schools, how many are genuinely ahead of Utah? Then factor in recency and trajectory bias, Utah is a solid brand to add to a tier 2 P5.
The third link is interesting. Oregon Duck wire talking about most attractive schools outside the Power 2. This is where most people — outside BYU fans — see Utah. Pretty reasonable assessment.
I think when BYU fans hear about Utah brand, they immediately laugh and compare Utah to Alabama. I think that's uneducated. No one is saying Utah is a blue blood. What they are saying is that compared to other tier 2 or tier 3 P5 schools, the Utah brand is strong and probably improving at a faster trajectory than other peers.
There's a reason why Utah gets the benefit of the doubt so often when it comes to more objective voters.
