players were playing for a scholarship not for financial compensation
Apparently you and I both love sports enough that we are debating about it on the internet over a few days. Its almost like a religion to us - the memories, the excitement, the friendships.
Its refreshing if the players can see through some of that and make real life decisions instead of worrying about "Glory". My dad's high school state championship that he talked about all the time did not make his next 40 years any better or any happier for him. He could have had just as happy of a life if he was in the band or found some other worthy cause to fulfill his time.
Kudos to a young man who is confident enough to make his decisions based on his own interests and his family's interests instead of worrying about producing "glory" for a bunch of fans who won't benefit his life in the future.
