...in 2015 but I'm not sure what changed for him in the next year but he started to give hints that he was struggling with some MH issues. iirc in that offseason he got engaged to a high profile BYU athlete, later they broke up, he had a QB competition with Taysom for the 2016 QB1 job, carrying a full load of classes at BYU, etc. He gave us some hints after fall camp when Taysom was named the starter, from what I remember he said something to the effect that Taysom was the right choice as QB1 and that he didn't have a good fall camp/wasn't fully prepared to challenge for the job.

At the time I wondered what he meant by that. It was after the 2016 season during the next spring/summer that he started to open up about his struggles. I think he was never the same QB again (based on his freshman year). Here's hoping Conover doesn't hit the same wall and can get the help/support he needs and still work towards reaching his potential.
