Gentleman Stan All-American
I occasionally work with a University of Houston alum. He is extremely
happy for his alma mater to be joining the Big 12. He was in college during the final years of the SWC and is particularly excited to be in a major conference again after 25 years.

After being in a league with Texas, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Baylor, etc., I can imagine it was a big let down to end up in the C-USA and American beginning in 1996. But even without the benefits of a major conference they've held their own.

Houston has the second best football history (after BYU) of the 4 new Big 12 teams with 15 AP Top 25 finishes, a Heisman Trophy winner (Andre Ware in 1989) and 4 major conference Championships (SWC) in 1976, 1978, 1979, and 1984.

One of their historic rivalries is with Texas Tech. They have a current series going, but Houston's move to the Big 12 will help solidify that. Texas Tech has won four straight, although Houston leads the all time series.
