The great debate between Max and John settles down to two major points: Beck could make throws Hall couldn't (stronger arm). On the flip side, Hall had a ton more confidence. It's still phenomenal that Hall was undefeated in 1 score games, and never failed when needing to produce a game winning drive. I rate them both about the same overall. Beck for the throws you just don't see every day, and Hall for the overall magic.
I tend to keep my rankings of their college careers separate from their NFL careers. If a guy sits the bench all 4 years at BYU and never plays, but somehow manages to land in the NFL and flourish (highly improbably but not completely inconceivable), that doesn't change the fact that he did nothing at BYU. It would just ignite years long CB arguments about how stupid our coaches were for not playing him.
